Woman led Business Radiant Skincare opens in Hyde Park Plymouth

Michelle Smithers, who worked as a health care professional for over 25 years in the NHS, is now opening the doors to her brand new salon Radiant Skincare in the desirable area of Hyde Park, Peverell, near Plymouth City Centre.

Michelle invites the local and wider community of Plymouth to Radiant Skincare and Beauty’s welcome event on 14th September 2024.

Speaking with Michelle, she says
“I am so excited to welcome all regular clients, new clients and anyone that wishes to pop in to our welcome event on Saturday 14th September between 11am and 4pm.

Clients will meet myself and other therapists that are based within Radiant Skincare and Beauty. There is a wide range of skincare, massage and beauty treatments available on our new treatment menu. Clients will be able to discuss and ask questions about the treatments we offer whilst enjoying a glass of Prosecco or fruit juice”.

Michelle mentions she has been supported by many women in her life and feels passionate that women should feel confident that they can achieve their dreams with determination and support! Michelle is passionate about helping to empower women and believes it is important to support the local community.

Radiant Skincare and Beauty will be holding a raffle to support a local charity called Trevi house which originated in Plymouth but now covers Devon and Cornwall supporting women.

Michelle says
“Trevi House is a charity close to my heart and the work they do for women is amazing. I believe it is important to support local charities which is why I have decided to donate all proceeds from the raffle to Trevi House. There are lots of prizes to be won with nearly all of them from the local businesses offering their support which is truly fantastic.”

Michelle started her working career as a 16 year old in health care in the NHS leading to a 25 year service including working through the Covid pandemic.

Michelle feels proud to have worked within the NHS however, she also had another passion in skincare. This lead her to start a new journey into the beauty industry training in a wide range of skincare and beauty treatments. Her previous role within the NHS gave her a vast range of clinical skills and a broad knowledge of anatomy and physiology and infection control. These transferable skills were a perfect foundation to work towards her qualifications as a Beauty Therapist.

Michelle believes it is important to regularly refresh her knowledge and practical skills ensuring that she remains a safe practitioner. It is extremely important to Michelle that each and every one of the clients that come through the doors of Radiant skincare and Beauty are welcomed, feel comfortable and enjoy their treatment.

Michelle started in a small salon which then expanded into a bigger premise within the city centre of Plymouth. A year later, she followed her dream and created her own brand ‘Radiant Skincare and Beauty’. Michelle expressed

“I have throughly enjoyed this new chapter it’s been hard work but I have embraced every step and now I’m excited to have the opportunity to open my own salon. I still have to pinch myself sometimes. If someone said three years ago this would happen I would have never believed it.
I have to say thanks to my husband, parents, family, friends and clients for the huge support and encouragement they have given me. I feel so privileged that my clients choose to come to me for their treatments, whether that is for a brow tint or a skin peel. Each and every one of them are so important to me and have enabled me to be in the position I am now.”

Recently, Michelle has become a member of the SHE project and has found this to be such a welcoming group and believes this is an invaluable support network for women led businesses. Michelle is embracing being in a women led industry and this group has helped her develop her ideas for Radiant Skincare and Beauty.

Michelle expressed how being in a predominantly women led industry is something that she has embraced and acknowledges how important it is for women to offer support and encouragement to each other.

Having changed careers and experiencing first hand the feelings of neves, excitement and also anxiety that comes with such a career change Michelle feels it important that women support each other and share their experiences.
